In our series “5 Questions for …” Ultisense employees give some insight into their daily work, tell us what drives them and how they see the future of technology. In this episode with Stefan, Head of Core Technology at Ultisense
What is your role at Safran Vectronix, and what brought you to the company?
As Head of Core Technology, I am responsible for leading our developments in optics, distance measurement, and positioning. I also oversee the company’s technology roadmap, ensuring we continue to innovate and strengthen our position in these key areas.
The cutting-edge technologies being developed here inspired me, and I saw an exciting opportunity to contribute to further advancements. The prospect of being at the forefront of innovation truly motivated me to join the team.
What are your challenges in your daily work?
Managing several projects and responsibilities at the same time is both challenging and rewarding. Balancing the complexity of different roles and ensuring progress across all fronts keeps my days interesting and dynamic. At the same time, it is important to keep the customer perspective in mind and ensure that our developments address the requirements of challenging applications.
What can we find on your desk?
Typically, my desk is filled with various modules and handheld devices, spanning from initial prototypes to fully developed production units. These often spark lively technical discussions and serve as practical touchpoints for innovation. And, naturally, I always keep the right instruments nearby, so I can both observe the stunning view of the Swiss Alps and verify that the mountains are staying exactly where they should be. 😉
What fascinates you about the modules?
What I find remarkable is how we continue to drive significant performance improvements with our modules, like the LRF3019, while keeping costs attractive. It’s exciting to see how much we can push the technology boundaries and support our customers in demanding and challenging applications.
How do you see the future of module technology? What’s next?
While I cannot share specific details from our technology roadmap in this format, I can only say that the future is very, very promising. Looking ahead, I believe the focus will be on fusion with additional sensors and expanding features to offer even more versatile and capable solutions, particularly for increasingly challenging customer applications.
